Understanding the influence of movies in sport

Rugby (as with most sport) is a wonderful tool that shapes us for life. The very reason you are reading this, is a testimony that something about this game has ignited your passion and fuelled your spirit.

However in our society today we see a lot of people giving up on their goals, not willing to go the extra mile. In a way a general trend to look for a quick fix or the fast track to success without a willingness to apply oneself has grown.

By turning to the popular culture of films, we have now found a source to inspire and remedy the motivation needed for players to excel. Creating a better path than the aforementioned "quick fix"...

It seems that around the world, as well as in the world of sport,  individuals are battling to find their true self.  Films for example like Braveheart, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Magnificent Seven, Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, Legends of the Fall, the James Bond and Indiana Jones franchises are built on this premise - a genre of individuals searching for their true selves.

Often the themes of these movies are used to draw comparisons, lessons and of course an entertaining/inspiring story. From the mercenary fighting for himself or herself to a warrior fighting for a greater cause. It is films like these which help us to understand a purpose being more important than oneself, often sparking the inspiration needed by a player during a game situation.

The concept: By taking the road less travelled (and not looking for the fast track) will perhaps end up with you making a "movie" of your life!
